I simply want my local mechanic to be able to fix my car or it is not a suitable car for me

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Car repair business has been changing when car technology is becoming high-tech. Car manufacturer supports OEM dealers and train mechanics with disclosure of all car repair information. Independent repair centre and mechanics are not trained enough to get sophisticated car repair without diagnostic tools for vehicles like Honda, Toyota and premium cars.

It has been believed by some (in USA) that car manufacturers are just trying to protect dealerships as they make more of their money from follow-up service than they do selling cars.

In USA, small car service centre invest in costly equipment and training for repair staff. They want to purchase the same equipment that the dealers purchase. The State House could pass a bill that would force car manufacturers to share sophisticated repair information with independent mechanics, not just their dealerships. That would make Massachusetts first in the nation with the so-called Right to Repair Act.

In Europe, officials rules covering the car sector could make it easier for consumers to use independent repair facilities rather than authorised service station garages.

In India, most of the small car repair shops rely on mechanics who have worked with OEM dealer earlier or they are self-trained and have no formal training. Scarcity of knowledgeable car mechanics makes difficult for small business to sustain and many workshops are out of business.

All over the world, majority of car owners interested to get their car servicing to neighborhood workshops or mechanics rather going to OEM dealers. It is truly said “I simply want my local mechanic to be able to fix my car or it is not a suitable car for me”

How do you search for good car workshops?

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

I asked this question to everybody who wanted to know about MeriCAR. I usually get following replies.

1. Word of mouth is always the best recommendation, ask your friends and neighbours.

2. My car is a Maruti. It came with a list of authorized workshops. I chose one near my house. My friends also recommended them.

Searching on the web is common, but there is no expected RESULT. Manufacturers list of car workshops would be outdated and you do not get the right contact numbers.

Mostly people search for another car dealers in the 3rd year when their car has “post-warranty” period. Large car workshops overloaded with new car. Costs of repair increases after warranty period.

MeriCAR helps car owners to contact all car dealers with use of web and mobile technology. MeriCAR recommendation are not less than “friends referrals”. When car owners is searching for car workshops, why there is no tool yet. MeriCAR directories not only list down all car workshops, but allow car owners to send enquiry.

Think car workshops !!! Think MeriCAR !!!

Why Do We Need MeriCAR.com?

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

I am often approached by people with the question – Why MeriCAR.com? I would like to share problems with car servicing industry in India and MeriCAR solutions. Please read my comments at StartUpDunia.com Blog (copy of comments are below).

MeriCAR has value proposition for dealer to “manage” bookings online and getting “new leads”. For car owners, “comfort and awareness” to find best car dealers in their neighborhood at the best price. To build car owners trust, MeriCAR is helping car owners to resolve problems with assigned MeriCAR car dealers.

To retain car owners for the second time, MeriCAR offers free services, discount offers and some other benefits from MeriCAR associates.

It is true that car owner would be interested to go to one best car dealer. So MeriCAR suggests car owner to choose one from a list of MeriCAR dealers. Premium car owner membership is paid membership.

Some car owners are still not aware about neighborhood workshops. They just visit to same dealer who sold them a car even they are far away. (Some cases I noticed).

Maintaining “online service diary” is good suggestion to give another feature for car owners.

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

MeriCAR is running a Summer campaign for car owners. This is our offline campaign for the same reason – AWARENESS and CHOICES. I personally visited to different places to talk to car owners. Below are some of the comments

My car is serviced by the same car dealer for last 2 years and i never asked if my car done it properly with best price because i do not know if there is another best dealer in my neighborhood…

I only knew one dealer who sold me the car and i like MeriCAR concept of giving chocies.

To keep my passion alive, it is always important for me to know that “People Believe In MeriCAR”. Many new car workshops are opening and old ones are closing. This is business cycle in the same industry. We are promoting few car dealers in Gurgaon. On the first day of campaign, there was very good response and the best part is some of them already got car services done from our dealers member.

We are trying our best efforts to create awareness of “car workshops” online and offline.

Car Servicing in India

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Leaving car at workshop, rushing to the office in the morning, following up with the car dealers for the whole day and get it back before closing of the workshop . Looking at the bill and the work done, you are not satisfied with the car dealer…. This is what you can call it “car servicing in India”. It is a painful experience in India. (Most of the cases).

It is common to have this experience because car owners have: (1). No choice to find another best dealer. (2). No easy way to contact other car dealers.

MeriCAR is doing an effort to make car servicing booking comfortable by booking it online using Web Forms and Mobile/SMS. Car owners receive call from car dealers and can choose car dealer of their choice. Most of the dealers who have “pick and drop” services are getting selected.

People do not remember his car service due date, because it is a painful experience and like bitter medicine. I must say, this would be a revolution if all car owners visit to car dealer on his car service due date. It needs regular reminders.

That is another good effort MeriCAR would be doing using web-based software. It would keep reminding car owners to take care of their car with regular and in-time check up.
